| 87941 Hotel de France, Chateauroux(French test region), FRANCE. To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From C.W.H. 4/3/31. 25-EX. We have received your memo. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 7/WH.2.9.31. in regard to 25-EX. The car was delivered to Em. yesterday with the following features fitted. (1) The 50% increased area torque reaction dampers. (2) Six 3.1/2" Nickel Steel Inlet Valves. (3) Front shock dampers with 105 lbs. R.F. and 95 lbs L.F. (4) Rear shock dampers made O.K. for loss of movement. (5) Attention paid to all bijur joints. (6) The mild steel front silencer was still O.K. (7) Clutch pit examined. this has been made airtight with an ingress from the crankcase. This scheme, this is not a new item as it was fitted to the engine before it left for America. (8) Cross Steering Tube load checked - i.e. 14.1/2 lbs. (9) 2 new Durlon Buttress Tread tyres fitted to the front wheels, balanced and pressures made 30 lbs. (10) Rear brakes adjusted by the eccentric toggle pins. We noted that excessive wear had taken place on the brake drums. The running of the car, therefore, by Em. will give us the results of the exhaust system, inlet valves, dampers, and torque reaction dampers. The chief feature which I wanted to settle up was the loss of clearance in the exhaust valves. We have not been able to prove anything, only that the loss of clearance happened during the very hot weather which we had hoped would return, but seeing that there is very little chance of the weather regaining the temperatures we had, we do not think we shall gain anything by keeping the car here. Therefore when Em. has finished with the car it can be returned to England. W.H.Hancock. C.W.H. | ||
