Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ------- X7010 BY2/G.5.6.29. CRANKSHAFT. ---------- Referring to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}9/E.3.6.29, I do not know where the idea has arisen that J.2 series incorporates a stiffer and stronger crankshaft. There has been no attempt to stiffen up the crankshaft over the Phantom dimensions, and therefore any idea that we were expecting improvements in this direction is erroneous. In regard to the 20/HP. crankshaft, this has admittedly been weak from the start. Experiments have been carried through from time to time with the object of improving this particular characteristic of the 20 HP., and from 'O' series onwards a very much strengthened crankshaft has been incorporated.
