To EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/KT.6.5.31. x7520. X.7520. X.832. 40/50 HP. HYDRAULIC SHOCK ABSORBERS. We understand that you have to order the material for 25 more 40/50 cars. The position is that we have run 40 hours on the bump with the new type Delco shock absorber, and so far the results are satisfactory. We think however that it would be very unwise to go into production with this type of shock absorber until we have run it on a number of cars we know are susceptible to noises from shock absorbers, and proved that this new type damper is silent after this endurance test. We therefore consider that you should order up 25 sets of material for the existing 40/50 rear shock absorber with the hardened steel bush in the intermediate lever which we have proved gives as good results as the hardened lever, and should save cost. With regard to the front shock absorber, we think this should be fitted up with the pipe from the air vent to lubricate the pin joint and hardened steel bushes, otherwise as at present being fitted to the L.H. car. We recommend that no air vent shall be fitted without non-return valves. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
