1381 also 804 MINUTES OF CONFERENCE BETWEEN MESSRS. ROLLS-ROYCE & PARK WARD TO DISCUSS B.50 BODY. HELD TUESDAY, MARCH 27TH, 1939. The following were present:- Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Fs.{F. Steele} Mr. Roberts, Mr. Falconer, Mr. Pinney. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} REC. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} EN. EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}: Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} (1) Failure of 6.B.IV Body in France. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} pointed out this body had failed, and read the report from Faller which mentioned various creaks as well as the wheel arch failure. He asked if it was intended that B.50 body should be this type of construction. Mr. Pinney said that the B.50 would be partly like the standard all-steel and partly like 6 B.IV. but no stress would be taken by wood at any point. (2) 6.B.IV Body mounting. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} pointed out that Park Wards had 'carte blanche' in mounting this body. Mr. Pinney said that he mainly objected to the support of the body at the wheel arch alone, i.e., he was in favour of a further mounting at the rear of the frame. Mr. Roberts emphasised that in his opinion this was essential. Mr. Pinney stressed the point that 80% of other manufacturers used a rear support at the extremity of the body. He also emphasised that he believed there could be too many mounting points. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} considered that the correct procedure would be to find out what body mounting Mr. Pinney required and act accordingly. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} said that apart from the position of the mounting points he would recommend that the mounting should be of the Floatex type as fitted to Wraith cars. Mr. Pinney agreed. (3) Accident to 6.B.IV. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} agreed to submit a report of this accident to EN. | ||
