To X. from BJ. Re: Steering. Your memorandum R1/M27.8.26 was read to the Sales Conference yesterday and greatly appreciated. In connection with this, PN.{Mr Northey} has mentioned that he has given up any wish to urge quick steering on our cars within the limits of likely variation, in consideration of the altered conditions to be fulfilled nowadays when touring, especially with lower pressure tyres. He also mentioned that it appears to be generally acknowledged amongst motorists that the new Panhard Straight 8, when fitted with balloon tyres, can run up to its maximum - about 90 miles an hour - without developing steering wobbles, and that he has been informed by Mr. Gordon Aston who writes so much for the Press, and by Mr. Bentley, that the same remark now applies to the new Bentley 6.
