To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} X~934 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}12/KW.20.5.35. Visit of Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} on Wednesday & Thursday, 22nd & 23rd inst. Replying to your note of the 16th May. SPECTRECodename for Phantom III. SpectreCodename for Phantom III 3 has now been completed, and was shown to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}, C., Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}, & Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} on Friday last. The most interesting feature of this car was the second RR-Marles steering, which was agreed by everyone to be a distinct improvement on the first. This car is now being prepared for France, the major items to be altered are :- (1) Phantom brake adjustment to be fitted. (2) The latest 5" deflection front springs. (3) A new engine unit fitted having latest camshaft, roller tappets, lengthened pistons and liners, etc. (4) Engine mounting altered as on SpectreCodename for Phantom III 1. (5) Intake and exhaust silencers brought up to date. It is not proposed to alter the clutch on this car as it is working very satisfactorily, and it would mean a considerable delay to get the Borg & Beck clutch fitted. BENTLEY. 5-B-IV. in France. This has been out of commission owing to the breaking of the pivot. We have received from Hancock the parts which failed, and examination shows that although they differ from the present standard pivots in certain dimensions, the actual section where failure has taken place is identical with that on all Bentley cars. | ||
