With regard to the 8 hr. test which I have previously instructed, I want you to arrange so that a record is kept of all the usual figures. There is no objection to the A.I.D. witnessing the test, and helping to take the figures.

In addition, I want you to keep a careful check on the total amount of petrol and oil used during the run, so that we know the exact consumptions.

I also want you to arrange to keep a record of the crankcase temperature, and of the oil temperature in and out of the engine.

With regard to the petrol to be used on this test, the British Petroleum Co. are anxious for their petrol to be used on the Round the World Flight, and I told their representative that if they sent some petrol along we would test it to see if it were suitable. I also told him that we were running an eight hour test, for which we should require 400 gals. of petrol. He seemed to think his Company would give us this amount, and he is going to take the question up with his Directors, and let us know if they will. I do not imagine that they will give us anything like this quantity, but if they should do so, we should use it for the test. If we find the fuel they send is not suitable, or could be improved by modification when we start our run we should communicate with them at once, and give them an opportunity of modifying its quality.

RG.{Mr Rowledge}
