Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C.R. C.J. RECEIVED EAGLE. X3989 Rg{Mr Rowledge}2/W10. 8. 22 When you have completed the Consumption and Silencer Tests on the "Condor" engine, will you please arrange to have the experimental "Eagle" engine fitted on the Bed and tested at high speeds. Please borrow "Eagle" IX pipes, so as to obtain high powers at these speeds. In the first place I want to run the engine at various speeds to judge if there are any periods that we should avoid. I should like to witness this test. As a result of this preliminary running, we will decide on further tests, which will probably be 1 hour at 2200 full throttle 1 hour at 2300 full throttle and then proceeding until we can detect the weakest points, with a view to modifying the crankcase pattern for future "Eagle" engines to make them suitable to run at higher speeds. Will you please also examine the movement of the inlet valves and springs at all speeds, to see what periods they have, in view of one or two instances of failure that we have recently had.
