TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} X5260 EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/28.11.31. X5260.

Copy to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} CX.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} LONGER BONNETS. 25 HP.

We thank you for your BY/Ogh4/G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 25.11.31. and the attached drawing and memos re the above.

We have long been in favour of a longer bonnet for the 25 HP. and wanted one for 20-G-4. but it was not allowed.

It appears as if the long bonnet should come in as standard on "U" Series on which series also it is hoped to introduce the rivetless bonnet.

On. N. Sch.3381. herewith we give our proposals.

With repest to the width of the bonnet at the back we think this should bemade 36ins., as drawn if the scuttle on a "C" column body is not to look ugly. We have no fear as to the appearance of this widened bonnet looking bad as did 18-G-4 and some of the coachbuilders efforts, as it is the same as the model which was made up for J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. last year, but with the added advantage that the side hinge has not been raised by the use of the shallow tank.

With the introduction of the rivetless bonnet we feel we should include the use of the P. 2. bonnet fasteners and the flip-flap shutters, so reducing the number of different standards. We would also like to have a permanently dropped side to the bonnet on all cars on the near side when the spare wheel is at the rear. All this we have indicated on our scheme. We should be pleased if you would make a layout of this bonnet and send us a print for our information

In order to enable us to see what this bonnet will appear like it may be decided to bring through a chassis so fitted for a stock car. The writer will discuss this with Sales next Wednesday and also the matter of the coachwork problem brought about this bonnet and the rivetless hinges as illustrated in oursketch on the N. scheme.

In order that the writer may be sure that he will have a print of this scheme in London on Wednesday next would you please send a print to CX.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} in time to be sure that he will receive it by Wednesday morning.
