The Marles-Weller Steering Gear which you were good enough to send back to us duly arrived and has been thoroughly examined, re-assembled and sent back to you, as per our letter of the 13th instant. We were very interested to have an opportunity of examining this gear, and would again thank you for giving us this opportunity. The condition of the gear would appear to be extremely satisfactory with the exception of the hemispheres in the follower, which matter is having our careful attention. In this connection we would add that in the gear as sent back to you we have fitted a new set of hemispheres which we have given a tempering operation in order to relieve some of the machining stresses. We are of the opinion that this will greatly increase the life of these hemispheres, and we shall be very interested to hear how these new hemispheres stand up. As regards the wear it was reported had taken place in the track of the ball races at the top and bottom of the Cam, we would point out that these bearings are of the Gurney type, and [Illegible Signature] - 1 - | ||
