Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd.,
Derby

Dear Robotham,

Thanks for your letter of the 18th instant. I shall be very glad to meet and have a discussion with Hives and Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} whenever this can be conveniently arranged.

In a general way I feel that with the plan which we have discussed for the All Steel Body - namely - that of producing same from a semi-tooled line-up and manufacturing these Shells in a separate Department which I would set up for your work, we are both proceeding on a basis which will not only ensure the quality which you must have, but will enable you to secure these Shells at the most economical figure.

It is always somewhat complexing to discuss tool costs with anyone who has been accustomed to buying Bodies on the basis of individual prices, but to anyone having gone through the experience of buying and manufacturing Bodies with various conditions of tooling, tool charges become quite a routine matter. Therefore, it is better when discussing prices of this kind to say as little as possible about Tools and confine ones remarks to estimated requirements with the resulting body-price.

I am looking forward with interest to our discussing this matter further.

Yours very truly,

N. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} MANNING

PS. I am returning herewith the figures which you left with us, as requested.

Encl.
