'M' SERIES BENTLEY - ANTI FREEZE.

As 'M' series Bentley cars are fitted with thermostats the instruction book tells the owner that he must use anti freeze in winter. In view of this we think that it is only logical that cars delivered to the owner in winter should have anti freeze already in their cooling systems.

This means that R.R. will have to supply this anti-freeze and we would like JLE. {J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} to indicate at what stage the anti-freeze mixture should be put in the cooling system to ensure that it is there when the car is delivered, i.e. are engines drained at all after they leave the works and if so when and why.

We would also like to know, in view of periods of time elapsing between the date when the chassis leaves the works and when it is delivered to the customer, whether it will be necessary to supply this anti-freeze mixture all the year round.

To reduce the cost of supplying the anti-freeze for each chassis, we propose to use Prices "Zero" (glycerene) because of its low cost - we have run a number of experimental cars on this mixture and it is entirely satisfactory.

Accordingly, we recommend that Prices "Zero" be officially recommended in our instruction books and that By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} issue instructions to production regarding the supply of this anti freeze on 'M' series chassis.

We think that a 37% mixture will be adequate as this is safe down to approx. 4°F. {Mr Friese} or 28° of frost.
