BRAKE DRUMS. X4612

R.{Sir Henry Royce} has recommended that we should investigate the possibilities of brake drums in aluminium with steel liners.

The following is an extract from an American Journal :-

"The Rubay Brake Drum is of aluminium with a 35-point carbon steel lining cast in place. This lining is beveled on the edges and drilled for anchor holes. The ring is then sherardized, placed in the mould and the aluminium cast around it. The aluminium is said to make an excellent bond with the zinc used in the sherardizing process even without the anchor holes. The casting with lining in place is machined all over so that the lining is truly concentric with the bore."

We recommend that we make some experimentally for either the 40/50 or Goshawk, preferably the Goshawk. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}

It may help with regard to squeaking which is still an apparent fault.
