C.2. SERIES. DAMPERS ON FRONT BRAKE DRUMS.

We find that on a large percentage of the brake drums that we bought originally for C.2. and which represents the only available material at the moment, we shall not be able to get more than a shoulder of .025" if we clean up the shoulder in question.

The only objection I see to this is that possibly there may be a tendency to shake the damper, which is only spring held, clear of the shoulder, that is, a sudden bump on the wheel might tend to make one of the shoes leave the face, and if the movement was sufficient, it might jump quite clear of the .025 shoulder. This does not seem to be probable, as it would mean you would get chattering noises in any case. I think it desirable you should cut down one of your shoulders to .025 and see whether you can make the piece leave the shoe on a bad road. If the springs are strong enough, personally I do not think it will occur, but I think it ought to be tried out.
