know our margin of safety.

I am glad you have come to the same conclusion that I did about the clutch. An effort should be made to get the suggestions of Mr Barrington and myself tested.

The front springs on this car were, according to Mr Spinney, some extraordinary light ones. It was, however, manifest to my mind that solid eyes would be preferable for these springs, and also that the second plate was unwisely short. If, however, it is found that the axle is bent, then some abnormal stress must have fallen upon it, as we always imagined that our front axles particularly were amplylarge enough for their work. I shall be glad to hear whether or not the front axle is bent, and in which way it is bent.

F.H.Royce.
