Chassis No. GRK-23. Colville.

Following your telephone message on the 19th inst., I called a conference which was attended by Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} , EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} and myself.

This conference recommends that a trial car, with which Sales are satisfied in respect of firing in the silencer, is sent to this owner for him to try, and if he is satisfied with this engine we will undertake to make his own as good.

We are making this recommendation as we are not convinced, even though we gave him a new engine or a new chassis, that the complaint he makes of firing in the silencer on his own car may not be equally bad with a new engine or chassis, as this feature exists on all cars with the present design.

I telephoned this to you this morning and at the same time read over a letter which we received from this owner by this morning's post. I also stated that the conference discussed this matter fully and informed you that it was a trouble we have experienced since we started making cars, that Mr. Royce was well aware of this peculiar feature, and that it was the outcome of highly efficient carburetter, and that other firms may not have the same trouble where the carburetters are much less efficient. In other words, the complaint in this case might be overcome if we ran with a carburetter set to give a very rich mixture.

In accordance with your further instructions, we prepared another carburetter which is being sent off to-day for our man, who is at present attending to this car, to fit before he returns to the works. We are writing him, instructing him exactly what we have done, and telling him to test the car with Mr. Colville and keep us informed as to what happens.
