Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From. G.W.H. 31.EX. - PHANTOM III. We have had a failure of the silent tappets on the above Car. One tappet became noisy and could not be quietened. Upon making sure that the oil supply was correct etc., we found that the valve in the plunger was not seating. Upon dismantling, the fault was traced to the spring clip having come out of the recess turned in the valve stem, leaving no spring in operation. We cannot take the plunger apart as it is a pressed job. We fitted a spare plunger, which immediately cured the trouble. ---------------- G.W.H. | ||
