| U. Smith Have these parts sent out x300w HOTEL DE FRANCE, CHATEAUROUX. Indre. France. GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/JAB. 15th November 1935. To. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From. G.W.H. 31. EX. - PHANTOM III. Whilst the Car was proceeding to Paris this morning, two or three tappets became noisy. A stop was made and the tappets quietened by releasing the poppet valve. N° 10 on A side again became noisy and in less than five minutes the lug of the eccentric broke off, exactly as the previous one. A clean break. The spare eccentric happened to be the right hand so it has been fitted. We should like some more spares sent out, right and left hand. The smallest bit of foreign matter seems to stop the oil supply through the feed screw, how it is getting there is a puzzle, as we have been very careful in cleaning the parts when dismantled. Apart from the ratio of the Rockers being altered, do you think the reduced plunger clearance has anything to do with the breakage ? A side has still got the plungers with .001" clearance.
