Continuation No. 1. Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd., 30.3.36. This error was of course not discovered until the hubs had been assembled to the driven discs, and when we were preparing for the final trueing and balancing operation. It has therefore been necessary for us to remove the hubs from the driven disc and we are arranging for same to be returned to you immediately, and should be glad if you would kindly arrange for a similar quantity of hubs in which the spline dimensions are correct - but in this case it would be necessary for the hub flange to have the rivet holes undrilled. This would enable us to drill flange from the driven discs, and ensure same being a good job. From this you will appreciate that it is impossible for us to supply you with any further 13½" driven disc assemblies until we receive a supply of correctly finished hubs. We would also confirm that we have made arrangements for Hyco friction fabric to be produced specially for us by our usual suppliers whose American friends are largely responsible for it's success in U.S.A., consequently you may rest assured that the material which we shall have available at an early date will be strictly comparable with the American samples recently submitted to you by us, and which you advise have so far given every satisfaction. We anticipate being in a position to have sample quantities available within approximately the next fortnight, and will keep you advised regarding this position. In the absence of definite data, we feel at the moment that the "Ferodo" No.6. material, samples of which were recently supplied to you at your request, will not bear favourable comparison with the "Hyco" material. In conclusion, we would like to refer to our model 10.A3. clutch as supplied for the Bentley application, and you will recall that quantities of clutches which had already been delivered to you were returned to us for stripping and re-building with S.82 material eyebolts. We find that a quantity of 81 were returned by you for this change to be made, and in accordance with the charges previously agreed with your Buying Department. Con't......... | ||
