X 3908 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Dy.{F R Danby} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [STAMP] MAR 24 1921 RECEIVED EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}35/P&A.3.81. x.3908 RE. FUMES IN BODIES. With reference to the trouble of fumes in the body which has been brought to your attention on several occasions, we are now receiving complaints from customers who demand attention, every attention having been given as far as the body-work is concerned to eliminate this trouble. It is essential, therefore, we should be in a position to make some alteration to the present chassis to overcome this trouble. We also recommend that the experimental work in connection with this should be proceeded with with all possible speed, and that some improvement should be added to the present car to overcome this fault, also that we should be in a position to supply to existing cars some improvement to overcome the trouble on customers' cars in cases of complaints. We have at the present time complaints from 3 separate customers, who are asking that something should be done in this matter :- 1) E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} Claremont, Esq. Chassis 21-TW. 2) Stanley Johnson, Esq. " 60-BW. 3) Sir Alec Black, (who is now negotiating with Mr. Johnson re the purchasing of his car back by R.R. Ltd. " 127-BW. As already arranged and discussed with you, we are proposing to supply to these cars the pipe from the breather to the inlet of the carburetter, which as pointed out in your HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG.1.3.21 to R, is the most practicable way of dealing with these fumes. Have you anything else to suggest. As promised, we expect to receive from you on Thursday, 31st. inst., the first of these special pipes, and we have promised Mr. Claremont to deal with the job accordingly. We are also anxious to hear from you how soon you can supply two others for the customers above specified, in fact we shall be glad if you will supply us with three further ones which we can make use of in case of further complaints, which I pointed out some considerable time ago we should anticipate.
