HYDRAULIC SHOCK DAMPERS.

We consider that the improvements now being fitted to existing shock dampers (i.e. steel replenishing valve seatings and hardened bushes) deal effectively with complaints of rattle, and it should be unnecessary to have to fit new dampers of the latest type.

We agree that the new split piston shock dampers seem to be free from these troubles.

RADIATOR LEAKS.

This trouble has not yet been definitely overcome and it seems to be a manufacturing difficulty. The matter is being kept under observation by the Experimental Dept.

SPRINGING COMPLAINTS.

We agree that the position is very much better, and we are now able to satisfy all our customers. There will always be customers whose requirements are difficult and it is a matter of experimenting with different shock damper settings.

SERVO TROUBLES.

These are now worse than previously on the 20/25 HP. and the material of the servo fabrics is not satisfactory. A new form of radially woven fabric is now being tried, and Ferodo liners are also being tested by the Experimental Dept.

The original servo liners were made from 'Halo' (a hard material similar to brake liners) and these were replaced by cotton fabrics about two years ago.

STEERING COMPLAINTS.

The Phantom II steering is difficult to get free from joggles at speed, and the Experimental Dept. are now working on this trouble to try and improve matters.

The spring loaded cross steering tube does fall in poundage with running, but we are afraid that it would be inadvisable to let customers or chauffeurs adjust this tube themselves. The present design does not permit of this without dismantling the tube and inserting packing washers.
