-2- HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/CEP.3/EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}31.3.41. Item No.6 - RE.1639, RE.1640 Conn. rod and Cap. It was agreed to permit the dies to proceed and Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} will reconsider the bolt head fitting. RE.2340/1 Conn. Rods. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} expressed dissatisfaction with this design, no work is to proceed until the design has been reviewed. Item No.7 - RE.1645 Conn. Rod Bolt. It was agreed to delete the two waisted portions and embody a plain diameter. Item No.8 - RE.1683 Camshaft. (a) Criticism of the centre hole was discussed at length. One suggestion was to increase the diameter from .1875" to .2812" Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} preferred a cored hole of .375" diameter. HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} promised to review this possibility and will advise Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} (b) Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} confirmed that it had been agreed to delete camshaft bushes and run direct in the casting. Item No.9 - RE.1704 Pump Casing. (a) It was agreed to run the first pump with Bush, RE.1713, deleted. (b) From the point of view of quietness, Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} stated it is decidedly necessary to retain helical pump gears. Item No.10 - RE.1705 Oil Pump Cover. Jnr{Charles L. Jenner}'s proposal was accepted. Item No.11 - RE.1712 Oil Pump Driven wheel bush. Jnr{Charles L. Jenner}'s explanation was accepted. Item No.12 - RE.1706, RE.1707 Oil Feed Pipe and Flange, between pump and oil gallery. HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} strongly criticised brazing and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} agreed to consider an olive joint scheme to cut out brazing. continued | ||
