Summarising our recommendations, therefore, as to how you should go into the Vauxhall Job, if you tackle it at all -

(1) Taub should re-design the shaft to get more main bearing area.

(2) He should toco-harden the pins.

(3) You should supply him with aluminium big-end bearings to suit re-designed big-end.

(4) He should re-design his lubricating system to fall in with our requirements.

The result should be a set-up which is as satisfactory as the one we have at present standardised.

Unless you go into the Job on these lines, I would leave it alone. If you are successful technically, there would still be the question of price. I have spoken to Mr. Newton on this subject, who will doubtless discuss it with you.

Constantine wanted to take some of the material to the States. I suggested, that if you agreed, the best thing would be for him to have a cwt. of it to use as they like, which was the procedure adopted with Ben Hopkins.

I do not think that Vauxhall's have a leg to stand on with the 'L' Section ring patents, and am inclined to think that they realise this themselves. We still feel here that the 'L' section ring, as supplied to us, is the best oil-controlling we have ever tried.

I have arranged for somebody to tackle your car at Kingsbury.

Best wishes for a good trip.

Yours sincerely,
