1020 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 28th July, 1937. W.C. Devereux, Esq., High Duty Alloys Ltd., 81, Buckingham Avenue, Trading Estate, SLOUGH. Dear Mr. Devereux, Thank you for your letter of July 26th. I had discussed the matter fully with Mr. Hives before I wrote to you. As you probably realise my anxiety is to start these bearings off with one firm where I know we can get the maximum amount of co-operation and so ensure that it is possible to engineer them into a low-priced car before tackling the Motor Industry generally. Naturally, the sooner I can hand over the job completely to you the better I shall like it, but I think it is hardly fair for me to expect the engineer to whom I am going to allot the job to take it on successfully without having worked out one satisfactory case with a friendly organisation. We may run into all sorts of difficulties that we do not expect. I have had a reply from Rovers, and their engineer in charge of power units will be on holidays from August 7th to 21st. I would like you to be present when we discuss the set up for this unit, so I am asking him to postpone his visit here until after August 21st. I am provisionally suggesting August 25th, 26th or 27th. I am going away myself for a fortnight from September 3rd onwards. Taub is in America at present, so that I cannot get any further with Vauxhalls for the time being. Yours sincerely, | ||
