Dear Mr. Devereux,

Many thanks for your letter of the 22nd instant calling our attention to aluminium bearing material which has been adopted by the Rolls-Royce Company for their cars.

This is quite interesting, since we ourselves have been experimenting with the High Duty Alloy connecting rod running direct on to our cast crankshaft, as used in the V-8 construction. We have now covered some 4,000 to 5,000 miles on the road and find so far that this combination of materials is satisfactory.

The cast crankshaft of course produces a very much harder bearing surface than the alloy steel shaft.

The writer will be pleased to discuss the technical aspects of this position with your representative, if you will kindly let us know when he will be able to call at this Factory.

Yours sincerely,

signed:- E.GRINHAM.

DIRECTOR & CHIEF ENGINEER.
