Tests at Brooklands on a Phantom III with a Stromberg carburetter to address a petrol starving issue.

A series of tests have been carried out at Brooklands on the P.III with Stromberg carburetter fitted to determine the petrol starving point, and arrange for sufficient supply of petrol to overcome the trouble. The following table shows the progress with needles and passages altered to increase the flow. Test 1 Pumps, flex, filter, RH.{R. Hollingworth} pipe line in the V carb. union, .312" bore, .800 needle, .180" seating. Result - starving. Test 2 Pumps, flex, filter, O.{Mr Oldham} pipe line in the V carb. union, .312" bore, .900 needle, .200" seating. Lap speed - 85.87 m.p.h. 1/2 mile - 90.00 m.p.h. Result, - starving slightly. Test 3 Pumps, flex, filter, RR pipe line in the V carb. union, .312" bore, .900 needle, .200" seating. Lap speed - 87.38 m.p.h. 1/2 mile - 92.31 m.p.h. | ||
