Petrol Starvation on the Ph.III.

Attached is a copy of a report on tests carried out on the Ph.III to clear up the petrol starvation at high speeds which has been troubling us.

The petrol pump used for the tests was picked as being the worst of 12 pumps which have been prepared for production.

The results indicate that with a straight through feed under the float chamber, we can get away with the flex and petrol filter as at present instructed for production provided we use a .180" needle valve seat with a 60° needle taper. It is of course still problematical whether the filter in the line will cause vapour lock under high temperature, high altitude, Continental conditions. This remains to be proved on the 15,000 miles test.
