20 HP. CHASSIS EXHAUST SYSTEM.

We have supplied you with two schemes, respectively numbered 563 and 564, by which the front end of the silencer is clamped up rigidly to the cross member and an expansion member is fitted on the forward end to allow the exhaust pipe from the cylinder to slide freely backward or forward in the end of the silencer itself.

Personally I am inclined to prefer Scheme 563. It does not drill the cross member, whilst in addition, it has another good point, namely, the band round the exhaust box will expand at approximately the same rate as the exhaust box itself, and therefore it will not be likely to split or distort the latter.

If you are satisfied with Scheme 563, that is to say, it is done at least as well as 564, I think it would be advisable to send out a Standardization Sheet and let us incorporate the change on the Series which are at present on order, that is, F.Series, 1200 - 1400.
