Smith} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/R.28.7.37. RAYMOND MAY'S CAR. We tried this car, which is really in excellent condition considering the work it has had to do. The engine may become slightly rough when it is driven hard for long periods, but under normal conditions, it is difficult to detect any signs of main bearing slackness. The brakes have maintained their efficiency very well; the crackling is bad, but apparently it has not worried the customer. The clutch jaggers slightly on reverse, but it is not worth changing it at present as it is a very good standard one under any other condition. We might easily make it worse. We recommend that work, as per attached sheet should be carried out. We think the crankshaft ought to be drilled, as it would be wrong to take a risk of big-end bearing failure on a car that is driven round racing circuits. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
