-2-

Results.
5 hrs. run completed - no failures.
On dismantling and examining splines and bevel
there were signs of wear.

Test (6).

Conditions.
As per test (5) but friction damper arranged as standard.

Results.
17 1/2 hrs. run completed.
Wheelcase stripped for examination and splines were found badly worn on the driving faces and to such an extent that we doubt whether the engine would have continued running for a further 10 hrs. The wear appears more due to the bevel tilting and sliding on the splines rather than actual hammering on the faces. The wear has all taken place on the driving face.

Test (7)

Conditions.
As per test (6) but new spline shaft in vertical drive and new bevel fitted but still with .050" clearance.
Further endurance running at 2100 r.p.m. was carried out prematurely terminated by propeller extension shaft E.27832 breaking after 13 hrs. 20 mins. under these conditions.
Engine has now been returned to shop to be fitted with the short nose E.29514 and carburetters in the vee.
