H.S.I. C.L.G. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/CWH. BY/ED.{J. L. Edwards} BY.13/C.16.9.36. PETROL PUMPS - MATERIAL OF DIAPHRAGM. Attached hereto please find copy of a letter which we have written to the S.U. Co. as a result of a visit of Mr. Dixon to confirm the position in regard to the use of the improved type of diaphragm. We have received Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s consent to make the change as quickly as possible, but it would be a mistake to jump in and insist upon the new fabric when the S.U. Co. themselves inform us that they would rather not supply us with the new type of diaphragm on the existing cotton fabric. They, however, point out that they have the improved cotton base going through on production, and that in a month from today they will begin to be able to deliver pumps to which the diaphragms on the improved cotton base with the later impregnation will be available. In the meantime will the Order Office please note that we should not build up a stock of S.U. pumps for any of our chassis in the interim, as it is important that we do not create the necessity for pumps to be returned and re-built with the new fabric.
