VISIT TO VAUXHALL MOTORS LTD. (LUTON). Purpose. To check up on their experimental work on carburation and fuel economy and to note their line of development since the last visit reported in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}11/R.8.7.37. Result. Outwardly, and from information available, they seem to have made little progress, since the previous report was written over 18 months ago. At that time they were lining up their programme of attack on M.P.G. and at the same time concentrating their efforts on the new 10 H.P. model as a result of this programme. The main additions therefore to the previous report are as follows - Carburetters. The Zenith downdraught carburetter is still retained, but with certain modifications. The system of air controlled economy is the same, but the main discharge and high velocity choke from the Stromberg design have been incorporated. It is interesting to note, in view of Taub's feelings for 'carburetter people' that during the past six months Vauxhall's have themselves been dictating method and procedure to Zenith's regarding the aforementioned alterations to the carburetter. It seems, their aims were mainly concerned with the inconsistancy of these mass produced - cut price carburetter. But quite recently, they have had to hand the job back to Zeniths, who we believe are having their share of trouble in sorting it out. | ||
