PHANTOM III - 'GENERAL' TYPE BYE-PASS OIL FILTER. Please receive herewith E.CD.715 'General' Bye-Pass Filter and Oil Connections in the Vee. Phantom Ill. E.CD.726 Oil Supply to 'General' Filter. The position of the Oil Filter has been arranged as suggested in our memo Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}7/G.9.5.38. It should be noted that the position of the filter feet are re-arranged from those on the model supplied to us by the Experimental Department, in order to bring the outlet from filter to the lower side, so that the oil will drain from filter casing when the engine is stationary. We are informed by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} that the oil in circulation in the engine quickly drains through the bearings etc. back to the sump when the engine is stopped, so that there should not be any quantity of oil remaining in the filter casing when it is required to change the filter cartridge. The oil supply to filter is taken from the high pressure connection on the relief valve and is returned to the low pressure rocker supply pipes in the engine vee. Additional bosses are required on the inlet pipe castings for fixing the filter support brackets. This design is intended as an alternative to the design for fitting an A.C. type filter to the Phantom lll engine which was shown on E.CD.590. Will you please detail and instruct experimentally so that a choice can be made as to which filter is preferred for the next 15,000 miles test car. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
