PRICE'S LUBRICANTS LIMITED, BELMONT WORKS, BATTERSEA, LONDON.S.W.11. JWGB/VHG. 29th March 1940. To: Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. FOR THE ATTENTION OF EXPERIMENTAL DEPT. YOUR REF: Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/ML. Dear Sirs, We have your letter of the 18th instant, and note and appreciate the circumstances under which You have recommended the use of pure mineral oils for use in stored cars. Whilst apparently we have no option but to defer to your experience which has shewn that a pure mineral is satisfactory, we do feel very strongly that in the memorandum in question there should not be any reference to any specific oil. Your inability, particularly under the present abnormal circumstances to carry out exhaustive tests with mineral oils as against compound oils is appreciated. On the other hand from the purely practical angle as apart from experimental, we would suggest that for every Rolls and Bentley stored with a pure mineral there are hundreds stored with compound oils. Actually we have cars of your make stored with Motorines, and you may be assured that when the time comes working surfaces will be carefully examined for any possible deterioration. It will be an opportunity then for re-opening the matter with your goodselves because we may have a fund of experience to back up our contention that the compound oil is as satisfactory, if not more so, than the pure mineral, for this work. In view of the foregoing we feel that it is perfectly reasonable to ask you to omit any reference to a competitor's specific grade. If you must insist that a mineral oil be specified we would suggest that the memorandum be left in the form in which it was originally drafted. We would ask your kind and sympathetic consideration in this matter, and thanking you for your letter. We are, Yours truly, PRICE'S LUBRICANTS LIMITED, Sgd. J.W.G. Brooker, Technical Direct | ||
