Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}1/LG1322.

We consider that the two cars which will be run in the day-time only, will provide us with considerable useful information as the continued running over a long period of time will tell us certain things which an intensive run for a long distance in a short time, will not give us. For instance, it is quite possible that a car would run successfully for 10,000 miles in a very short period of time, say one month, but may develop certain troubles if the same distance was run in, say, 6 months.

It is not intended to keep the cars out there so long as this but we merely use this as an illustration.

It is proposed that Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} should be in charge of the expedition and would take out 4 drivers and one mechanic. The car which will run the intensive test will absorb three drivers - two on the night run and one on the day run and two or three of these men could return to the works when the car running the intensive test had completed 10,000 miles.

Avignon, or thereabouts, has been suggested as the base as it is convenient for the test roads of Southern France, the hilly districts around Grenoble and is also centrally situated between Paris, Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, Rivera and Spain. This is considered to be convenient in case any of the RR. Officials at any of these places wished to try the cars.

The details of the arrangements have still to be made.

We should be pleased to hear whether you approve of the general scheme before finally making the arrangements.

Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}
