x4607. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/AD. 14th October, 1930. The Gallay Radiator Co.Ltd. 103/105, Scrubbs Lane, Willesden, London, N.W.10. Dear Sirs, Further to our letter of the 30th September. We have now tested this radiator and compared it with various types of matrix which we have been using. Whilst we are pleased with the weight, we are disappointed with the efficiency of the core which is considerably lower than we can obtain with various tube type matrixes. During our visit to the Paris Salon we visited the stand of the French Gallay Radiator Co. and were informed that they have evolved a new matrix which gives some 30% greater cooling over a given frontal area than the type you submitted to us. The new radiator matrix which they have developed employs a considerable amount of indirect cooling. They told us that the reason you had not yet used this in England was that you had not machinery to manufacture it. We should like to know whether you can confirm their remarks and if so whether you agree that the matrix we have been testing may be regarded as somewhat obsolete. One point which interest us is, what is the price of the radiator matrix which you supplied to us would come out to be if ordered in quantities of 100, the top and bottom tanks being supplied by us as in the case you have just dealt with. There would, of course, be no question of radiator shutters which would be done at the works. We should also like to know whether the new matrix is more expensive than the one you have produced for us. We thank you for the opportunity you have given us for testing your radiator. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
