E1/G1/5/19 Contd. -2- have been making during the War, the time occupied should be considerably less and probably a month would suffice. X.3533(5) CUTOUT FOR DYNAMO.- For the 20 H.P. and possibly the new 50 H.P. X.294 chassis, Mr. Royce proposes that the Bijur trembler regulator X.3231 should be bought in quantity, and used in conjunction with our own R.R. dynamos. This trembler regulator should be incorporated in the distributor board on the dash instead of being carried on the dynamo. The former position only requires an additional wire for the excitation of the dynamo and has not the disadvantage that the trembler might be upset by the vibrations of the engine. The regulator is probably an apparatus which requires a considerable amount of time and experiment to get right, and for this reason it is thought that the adoption of the Bijur model will save a lot of effort which can be ill-spared. X.3482&(6) MICHELIN WHEELS ON 20 H.P.- On consideration of the 20 H.P. X.3493 back and front axle designs, it was thought that the small model Michelin wheels could be used, if only the bore were enlarged from 85 m/m to about 95 m/m, without any further alteration. This necessitates some alteration to the rear axle however An alternative design of back axle is to be drawn, in which a smaller size of outer ball bearing is to be shewn in the hub; this latter being obtained by a reduction in the axle driving shaft, where it passes through the axle tube on its way to the driving serrations, which are outside of the axle tube. It was thought that an immediate decision regarding (Contd.) | ||
