OBJECT:- The object of this report is to propagate the following notes as instructions to the departments concerned. (1) MATERIAL. - It was considered most important by Mr. Royce that material should not be ordered in excess of the exact amount instructed by the offices for the sake of dicipline and to avoid excessive and wasteful manufacture of material. (2) 50 H.P. ENGINE. - The size of the new 50 H.P. engine has been decided at 4" bore by 5½" stroke. X.3549 (3) HOT AIR FOR CARBURETTOR. - Mr. Royce suggests that in supplying hot air to the carburettors of our new chassis, the heating should be provided by a water jacket on the inlet, as the usual method of having a long twisted pipe crossing over to the exhaust is very inconvenient and ineffective. (4) 20 H.P. CRANKCASE. - It is hoped that the detail drawings of the 20 H.P. crankcase are in hand in Derby. Every effort is to be made to complete the information required for this particular part from West WitteringHenry Royce's home town. Mr. Hives estimated that about two months would be required to make the crankcase patterns for the 20 H.P. but Mr. Royce pointed out that as these particular pieces were very small and simple compared with the aero engine crankcase, which we (Contd.) | ||
