Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, We thank you for yours of the 8th instant. The sample Shaft was approximately 4 lbs heavier than our standard by the special end yokes made to fit your existing parts. We can get another 2 1/2 lbs out by a hollow shaft end where the tube spigots. We do not know how much lighter 'very little' is, but put at 2 lbs with standard ends and hollow spigot, we should be 8 1/2 lbs lighter. All we can do with the special type of end yokes fitted, is to cut out the 2 1/2 lbs referred to, and if you do not use the whole of the spline movement, we could shorten both the male and sleeve portions. By scaling your print we get a compression of 1/8" and extension of 1/4" and we have provided compression of 1/8" and extension of 3/4". Half an inch of both parts may save another 1 lb. So the total possible looks like 9 1/2 lbs lighter with standard ends, and lightened spigot. Yours faithfully, p.p. Hardy Spicer & Co.,Ltd., J.A. Daniell Director. | ||
