from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hl. Re Casting in Aluminium Bronze. It is realised that it is important to get the strongest and lightest castings at Derby, and I assure you that everybody is persevering in this direction. There are, however, difficulties in casting, but BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hl. and the Foundries have been giving this attention, but Aluminium Bronze has not been discarded because of machining difficulties, it is still being persevered with, but its whole trouble is, being able to cast this metal at reasonable cost. This is also our great difficulty at present with the Hall light alloy. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} is giving material his constant attention, and Hl. for the last year or so, has been constantly analysing our materials and has had the utmost support and encouragement in this work. The reason I am replying to your memorandum instead of BY is, he is away ill at the present time, and I wanted to put your mind at rest in this most important matter, and to assure you that everything possible is being done. | ||
