until he can say definitely if it is oil, rings, or piston design.

The other trouble seems the camshaft drive. I have long ago suggested that we run with and without spring drive, but I do not think it is this, but that it is caused by the unavoidable uneven resistance and overrun of the camshafts. Experimentally we might couple the two camshafts together by silent chain, vee belt, or connecting rods.

In any case I believe we must avoid any slack whatever in the drive at small radius unhardened, so that large diameter thoroughly casehardened, serrated universals that will also give the telescoping, are what are needed. Everything else must be firmly secured, say by taper fit and key.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} should see that Expl: Dept: have suitable instructions.

Owing to the life and death urgency of this aero work it seems that Messrs. RG.{Mr Rowledge} and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} cannot come to France this spring.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is coming on car work with the next 10,000 miles 20 HP., and I hope EAC.7 will follow and meet him, but I understand England has proved critical enough for this car up to the moment of writing.
