With reference to shock dampers, it is quite evident that the duty we are making them do is too much, but I should certainly keep this amount in the bumping test so that we can prove that the fixing of the lever is sufficiently secure.

You will remember now that we have tried a plain cone, friction only, we have tried a square with the friction created by a cross bolt; it now appears that we shall have to use a serrated fit.

Kindly ask Mr. Day to get out a lever for this and rotor similar to our taper serration on the steering lever.
This is the only scheme, other than friction, which will resist reverse stresses.

I will endeavour to find one or two other fixings which might be tested at the same time because it would be extremely useful to know what form of fixing is thoroughly reliable for this type of stress, and now seems an opportunity.
