Re "A" & "B" Type Steering.
With reference to BY12/P9.10.19, the first paragraph of your note indicates the position. The sixth item of the Minutes of the Coach Builders' Conference held on Sept. 26th. (Copy sent to you) states that the Coach Builders and Sales Dept. recommended that the present "C" and "D" standards should not be departed from at present. In matters such as these I think we must carry Sales and the Coach Builders with us, and since we have failed to do so, we had better let the matter rest for a time. With regard to the question of the extra cost of the long chassis which is now going to be supplied in lieu of the "A" steering, I think the matter should be put to Sales as to who shall pay for it. It is rather a matter for Co. to settle, I think. I am surprised that the extra cost should be so much. Don't you think that in practice the extra cost will be less than stated, amounting in fact to the extra material alone? Will Mr. Day please prepare for issue a Standardisation Sheet approving the use of the long chassis with "B" steering. The fact that it is used in lieu of "A" steering is not relevant to Standardisation.
