4634. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re P.II Cars Copy to H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}12/E22.1.31 Our most serious complaint is, as you know, the one relating to vibrations from 15 to 25 miles per hour and what I originally referred to during the days we were testing the experimental cars as the "roar, noise or fuss" at higher speeds. I am afraid that our reputation is being seriously damaged by these complaints. As the result of certain experimental work which you have been carrying out, I believe it had been agreed with R.{Sir Henry Royce} that the only line for us to adopt under the present circumstances, in order to help overcome these troubles, is the adoption of stiffer crankcase, larger diameter crankshaft and balanced crankshaft, improved form of engine suspension, i.e. fore and aft suspension with torque taking support each side. I should be glad to know how soon you except to be able to let us try a car fitted with these modifications as, if the results are as beneficial as we hope, then it becomes a matter of great importance to decide how soon they can be introduced for production.
