COLIN MACBETH, M.I.A.E. M.S.A.E. F.I.R.I. TELEPHONE: CENTRAL 2621. X3575 67, NORWICH UNION CHAMBERS, Corner of { CONGREVE STREET, EDMUND STREET, BIRMINGHAM. 2nd. February. 1926 Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd. DERBY. Dear Sirs, Attention Mr.Hives. I am sending to you now the sample Rectifier as discussed with Mr.Hives and referred to in my letter of the 8th. As regards fitting same the points to watch are the following:- 1. Insert Rectifier tube through hole in manifold placing a 1/8" copper gaskett (1/2" spark plug gasket) at top and bottom of manifold. Clamp into position with the locking nut. 2. Connect Rectifier oil intake ( at the bottom) with the motor oil pressure line by means of a 1/4" O.D. copper tube. 3. Connect rectifier overflow with the crank case ( above oil level) by means of a 3/8" O.D.copper tube. Avoid sharp bends and do not trap oil at any point. 4. Connect vapour outlet of rectifier to the air intake of carburetter at a point where a very slight vacuum exists. Avoid sharp bends and traps. 5. Remove screw exposing hole provided for insertion of thermometer. Pour in motor oil until rectifier tube is full. Insert thermometer in hole provided for same. Start motor and set thermostat so that the temperature of oil is from 290°F to 300°F.{Mr Friese} with the motor running at fairly high idling speed with the spark retarded. 6. Rectifier should be fitted in the manifold towards the exhaust pipe end of same so that it gets the heat from the majority of the cylinders. The pipes 8 and 9 should be kept approximately as large as the tapped holes in the vapouriser head will allow, namely do not throttle down. | ||
