volts is nearer to 15.9 to 16.3 volts.

As a check on this we readjusted unit RR.1 III first to 16.3 volts and then to 15.9 volts. The corresponding outputs were :-

| O.C. volts. | Amps. at 13.5V A.1. | Amps. at 15.5 V A.{Mr Adams} |
|-------------|-----------------------|--------------------|
| 16.3 | 17.5 | 5.8. |
| 15.9 | 15.0 | 3.1. |

As this regulator may be of interest to you we are sending it together with unit LT.1736 for your examination. The latter became unstable after running a few times and appeared to be developing 'flip-flap'. We should be glad to have both units returned to your convenience.

We feel now that we have the main points on which to base a specification of adjustment and test. These are as follows :-

(1) The regulators to be adjusted by the Maker, in some convenient manner so that when working in conjunction with an R.R. dynamo, running at 4,000 r.p.m. the outputs shall be as specified below.

(2) With the regulator in a cold condition, the dynamo shall first be run up to 4,000 r.p.m. on open circuit, at which speed it should be maintained. The circuit through terminal A.1. to a load resistance should then be closed, and the current gradually increased, until the volts have fallen to 13.5 when the current should lie between the limits of 14.5 and 18.5 amperes.

(3) The dynamo shall again be run up on open circuit, but now the circuit through the terminal A must be closed, and the current increased until the regulator volts have fallen to 15.5. The current should then lie between the limits
