E.2/HP.6.12.35.

Cylinder Rubbers for Phantom 3.

This is/to confirm that the cylinder rubbers in the material at present used up till now have given trouble with swelling on Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}'s experimental engine causing contraction of the bores, and that it is agreed that this material should not be used but replaced by the latest specification D.T.Y.10/developed for aero work.

It is assumed, therefore, that instructions will be issued covering existing commitments in respect to these rubbers. We understand from Mr Birkbeck of the Goodrich Company that they have a large order for these rubbers to the old specification.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
