RIPPLE UNIT FOR 12.B.V. CHASSIS.

In view of the fact that the intended engine for this chassis (WR.1) has been bored out to suit R.R. bearings and that we desire to run Vandervell main bearings, the unit already in this chassis (WR.2) should be removed, brought up to the following specification, and after its bench test will be refitted to 12.B.V. for 30,000 miles test.

(1) Existing crankcase if free from cracks which is suit-
able for -
(a) Vandervell main bearings (L.1076).
(b) Camshaft running direct in crankcase.
(c) Longer rear retaining thread, ECD.924

(2) New Vandervell three-layer bearings will be supplied by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}

(3) Existing crankshaft ER.4410 if unworn and free from cracks.

(4) Existing spring drive after overhaul.

(5) Following satisfactory run on the connecting rods in W.III No.4 unit which are fitted with Vandervell big ends, these will be used in conjunction with new bearings as supplied by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}

Additional to the above, 3 of the rods should be fitted with Vandervell little end bushes if possible, in accordance with our memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}11/JH.9.6.39.

Remaining 3 rods to be fitted with new standard little end bushes.

(6) Pistons with .300 raised crown will be supplied by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}

(7) Cylinder block with dry liners (ECD.1300) originally specified for No.1 unit to be fitted.

Coolant jet scheme ECD.1349 to be fitted.
