Phantom III Gearbox - Bedding of Cones. Attached is a report from Hancock which summarises the tests he has recently been carrying out to improve the synchromesh operation on the Phantom III gearbox. As both the threading of the cone and the accommodation angle can be incorporated in the bits that have at present been instructed for production without incurring scrap, we are not proposing to alter the existing specification of gearboxes until these improvements have had a considerable amount of running. At the same time, we shall build up 4 or 5 sets to get an average value for them. The car on which these tests were carried out had no tail bearing on the flywheel and this may materially influence O.W.'s complaint as to the misalignment of the first motion shaft bearings. He will have an opportunity of determining this on his 10,000 miles car, 32-EX. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Att: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W.
