Dear Mr. Skinner,

Thank you for entertaining us so nicely last week.

Since our visit I have been thinking about the part throttle economy on your present standard S.U. carburettor. I am quite satisfied that under hard driving conditions you should be able to beat the fixed choke carburettor for consumption, but it appears that one relies for part throttle economy on pulsations in the induction pipe, which vary with valve timing, air silencer and other things. Surely there should be some means of controlling part throttle economy in the carburettor itself.

We actually adjust the balance pipe between the two halves of our 6-cylinder in order to get the necessary degree of pulsation, but this is not possible on a "4" or an "8".

Incidentally, with regard to big carburettors, what is the maximum angle to which these carburettors can be tilted, longitudinally and transversely before they flood, assuming that the lowest possible level compatible with performance is utilised?

Yours sincerely,
